Affordable Care Act: Pros and Cons

Introduction

Certain Acts approved by the US government have been really beneficial for the American

people, and certain Acts have raised a lot of hue and cry from the people because of the

controversies involved with the Acts. One such Act that has been a hot topic of discussion is the

Affordable Care Act. Although it is beneficial for the Americans, it has certain drawbacks.

History of the Affordable Care Act

The patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was signed as Law by President Obama in

March 2010. Most of the provisions of the Act came into effect in Jan 2014, and this Act

underwent a few changes before its final implementation. The basic principle of the Act

according to President Obama is that “…everybody should have some basic security when it

comes to their health care” (Affordable Care Act history, 2015). The Act nicknamed as

Obamacare will help around 30 million people to get insurance by expanding Medicaid and

lower subsidies that would further help the lower and middle income group people to buy private

coverage.
