What is the difference between organizational change and organizational development? Imagine your company produces synthetic flowers, and needs to change to a new form of production and technology. Explain how you will apply Lewin’s 3 steps in the change process. Be specific about what you will do in each stage. Explain how you will handle resistance to this change. Organizational change and organizational development are two different terms, but they may also have a strong relation because sometimes changes are done to improve or develop the organization. Organizational change is the change done purposefully or due to unseen circumstances in the organization. Plant closings, business failures, acquisitions, mergers and downsizing are some of the organizational changes that have become the norm in most organizations (Nelson & Quick, 2013, p.668). Changes in organizations are of two types. The first type is the planned change that results from a deliberate decision meant to make changes in the organization. All the changes are not planned. Unplanned change is the second type of change that is unforeseen and most of the times is forced or impose on the organization. Organizations have to be adaptable and flexible to meet the demands forced by unplanned changes. Overall, the organizations and the managers should be prepared for both the type of changes (Nelson & Quick, 2013, p.668).

Explain 2 theories of decision making. Why is identification of the real problem the first and most important step in the decision-making process? Discuss some of the advantages of participatory decision-making. Decision making process is divided into certain steps. The first is to recognize the problem and the need for a decision. The second step is to identify the objective of the decision and then gather and evaluate data and diagnose the situation. The fourth step is listing and evaluating alternatives and then selecting the best course of action. The next step is to implement the decision then gather feedback and finally the follow up (Nelson & Quick, 2013, p.353). The two theories of decision making are: rational model and garbage can model. The rational model is a logical approach that is taken in step by step manner to make decisions by thoroughly analyzing the alternatives and the consequences of the alternatives. In the rational model the decision finally taken will be rational and a consistent system of preferences will be employed to select the best possible alternative and the person taking the decisions is all the time aware of the alternatives available in order to calculate the probability of success (Nelson & Quick, 2013, p.353).
