The participants were selected between the age group of 18 to 65 years and were given buprenorphine to treat opioid dependency. The study was conducted over a period of 17 weeks, and the participants were asked to visit the clinic every day for 13 weeks. The participants were screened physically and medically, and their medical history was recorded. They were given buprenorphine for 7 weeks. For the first 3 weeks, the dose was high and in the next 4 weeks the dose was reduced. Blood, urine and breath samples were regularly collected, and the participants were given questionnaires on mood, drug craving and withdrawal symptoms. Then after 1 week on buprenorphine, the participants were given the study pill or a placebo every day.
