A Look inside the Brain in Real Time: Christopher deCharms

Christopher shows a new aspect in this video and shows the usage of the MRI scan to control the pain cycle. It is interesting to see that a person inside the scanner can actually see the points that are working inside his brain to move his arm. Christopher is blunt sometimes and tells that till now the approaches to impact the brain were the pills, the therapist’s couch and the knife. Now, we can control our brain ourselves. The technique is simple if you know the pathway. Chronic pain can be treated easily if the brain pathway of pain is controlled and patients will be able to get rid of pain by just controlling their pain. Christopher emphasizes that this technique is already being used successfully, but still it is an investigational technology. I liked the way Christopher handled the audience and in a short period explained the overall complex process using the presentation slides and practical demonstration.
