Social stratification is defined as a system by which a society ranks categories of people in a
hierarchy (Macionis, 2015). I believe the social-conflict approach best explains social
stratification. Social stratification benefits some people and disadvantages others rather than

society, but it will benefit only a few people and many people will not be benefitted rather they
will be at disadvantage. The social ranking system leads to inequality in society.
