Islamic View on Sexuality

Sexuality can be viewed and explained from different perspectives. In the article “Sex and

Sexuality in Islam”, the Islamic perspective of sexuality is explained in detail. The article covers

all the aspects related to woman and her position in Islamic society. Islam has given women

equal rights in the society, but in general a woman is not viewed according to the concepts of

Islam. She is considered as an object to be dominated and mastered. The historical perspective

also shows that during the Victorian Era women did not have any rights. The developmental

stages of women have been described and the pre-marital and post-marital rights and practices

followed by Muslims have also been explained in this article. A psychological perspective is also

included that explains that women develops low self-esteem because she is given names from

early childhood. Islamic laws and examples from Quran and Hadith are given in the article to

explain the position of women in Islam. Other concepts like rape, homosexuality, contraception,

abortion, and sex education are discussed in the article and the Islamic perspectives are

emphasized (Sex and Sexuality in Islam, 1999).
