Similarities and Differences in Saudi Arabian Culture and American CultureThere exists a great deal of differences across cultures. In the global world, it is important to understand the cultural differences as it will help to acknowledge and interpret the expectations and the cultural values of people from different cultural backgrounds. People from different cultures may looks at things differently, dress up differently and also express themselves differently (Differences in Cultures, n.d.). People from different ethnic and cultural groups are employed in large transnational corporations and the cultural differences among the employees may result in conflicts. Therefore, it is important to understand the similarities and differences in cultures. According to Hofstede, there are five dimensions along which cultural differences may emerge (Nelson & Quick, 2012). These five dimensions are: individualism/ collectivism, power distance, uncertainty avoidance, masculinity/ feminity and long term/ short term orientation. If two cultures, Saudi Arabian culture and American culture, are studied using the five dimensions given by Hofstede, it would be found that there are many differences and a very similarities in both cultures and therefore a person who has been raised in Saudi Arabia can find it very difficult to manage employees in America.
